Restoration Begins:
In the summer of 2009, LCPS began renovating the chapel with
community volunteers and Horizon Youth Service
–Jobs
Corps students, based at nearby Camp Horizons. (To learn more about HYS's work on the chapel's
restoration, go

Many businesses, foundations, families and churches contributed time, equipment, and materials
to the project, in addition to labor.
Here six members of Mountain Valley Repairs, who assisted in shoring up the chapel's
foundation, take a break to pose for a photo.
The chapel was temporarily raised (bottom photo) in order to remove
its original
limestone piers, which were then replaced with cinder block ones
faced with stone, a practical compromise for LCPS in its
effort to save the building and balance retaining historic
fabric against limited funds.
