The African American Heritage Resources of Alexandria Multiple Property Documentation (MPD) Form facilitates the nomination to the registers of resources that document the lives of African American citizens in Alexandria. It illuminates how they formed a supportive community to fulfill their needs to educate, house, and provide for themselves and their children under restrictive conditions. The African American Heritage Resources of Alexandria MPD is divided into three contexts – residential development, educational development, and communal development for the period 1790 through 1953.
Many properties listed in the registers are private dwellings and are not open to the public, however many are visible from the public right-of-way. Please be respectful of owner privacy.
