This Multiple Property Documentation (MPD) form facilitated the individual nomination of a total of 56 historic properties in Montgomery County, based on the comprehensive architectural survey of the county performed in 1985-86. Chronologically, the county’s history was broken into six generally meaningful periods to allow and assure coverage of each theme. The periods were pre-historic, 1745-1800, 1801-1830, 1831-1865, 1866-1900, and 1901-1940. In order to organize the survey effort into manageable units, the county was divided into eight geographical or political study areas. Research was undertaken in order to understand the county’s development in ten theme areas: Residential/Domestic, Agriculture, Government/Law/Welfare; Education, Military, Religion, Social/Cultural, Transportation, Commerce, and Industry/Manufacturing/Crafts. A prehistoric component was also developed.
Many properties listed in the registers are private dwellings and are not open to the public, however many are visible from the public right-of-way. Please be respectful of owner privacy.
