Glebe Center is located on North Glebe Road in Arlington County, adjacent to the Ashton Heights neighborhood. Designed by Mihran Mesrobian and built in 1940 by F&W Construction, Glebe Center combines elements of the Art Deco and Art Moderne styles. The building has an L-shaped footprint and is separated from the street by a large parking forecourt. The one-story, cinder-block shopping center has a flat parapet roof and is clad in a six-course, American-bond brick veneer with cast-stone accents. The principal elevation on the southwest of the building has large storefront windows (replaced about 1990); Art Deco decorative elements, including geometric floral and chevron motifs; and a central square tower surmounted by a glass-block clerestory capped by a pyramidal-shaped metal roof. At the time of its listing, the interior of the Glebe Center shopping center reflects changes from 1970 through 2004.
