DHR is occasionally asked to provide comment on projects that are not otherwise subject to provisions of state or Federal preservation law.
Numerous localities across Virginia have local preservation ordinance requiring the consideration of impacts from rezoning or development on historic resources.
DHR is available to provide assistance to local governments in the review of cultural resource studies stemming from these local ordinances.
When there is no state or Federal agency involvement in a project, but such involvement is anticipated, project proponents will sometimes want to obtain DHR comments as part of preliminary project planning.
Please contact the Review and Compliance Division (RCD) to determine whether DHR can provide the technical assistance needed for your specific situation.
