Snaphaunce Cock: The small tail at the lower end of this S-shaped gun cock —used to catch the nose of the sear and hold the cocked position —is characteristic of the snaphaunce firing mechanism. The top jaw is missing on this example.
Many gun parts in relatively good condition were recovered from the mid-17th-century site, Causey’s Care, in Charles City County.
