Bandolier Cap: Musketeers in Europe of the 17th century often wore a bandolier, a shoulder strap from which hung a number of cases, each containing a measured charge of powder for a musket or pistol. The case may have been made of wood or metal plus wood but the wood is rarely preserved. Metal caps, like this lead example, however, are encountered on archaeological sites.
This bandolier cap was recovered from Jordan’s Journey near Hopewell in Prince George County.
